August, though...
What Summer '25 has been so far
Hi everyone,
Somehow it's August. I wonder how many times I've said that over the years? It's what August does, after all.
I've been spending the summer in the studio with various projects: a couple of short film scores, a compelling dance film project, and of course, my own work. I've also been making a point of visiting places around the island as a traveller rather than performer who has a specific reason to be somewhere with a task to complete. It's been rewarding. Pics at the bottom of this newsletter of New-Wes Valley, Chance Cove, Salvage and more.
I had a great few weeks of creative release in the second half of June that will turn into a late Fall release, along with a special announcement for a much bigger project. I know, I know...I kinda hate the hype train too, but it's simply true that it's something I can't talk about just yet, but am excited about.
I'll go back into the studio for the last two weeks of August to finish a project started over a year ago with co-producer Mark Turner (who worked with me on Close to the Bone and Nerve), at which point there will be lots of new music to listen to.
Before all that, I'll be playing two live shows in St. John's this August and September, for those in the area:
August 14th at The Battery Cafe, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. This venue is so sweet: like a public house concert in terms of vibe. Just 35 seats, so grab your tickets in advance.
Sept 5th at Harbourside Park, 12:30 p.m. This show will feature Nancy Hynes on vocals, Nick Coultas-Clarke on drums and Brad Madden on bass. It's outdoors and free to the public. We'll play about 40 min.
Note that both shows will be 'singer-songwriter' in nature. I'll be playing songs from the back catalogue up to and including songs from Close to the Bone.
More instrumental, collaborative performances will follow in the Fall.
Hope you can make it out to one of these shows, and I hope your summer is as carefree as possible.
- Ian
